1. “Daylight”
You’re listening to Azza’s Half Hour where today the solo career of Jimmy Barnes is in focus and that was a song entitled ”Daylight”.
Jimmy Barnes was born in Glasgow, Scotland on the 28th of April 1956 and moved to Australia with his family at the age of 4. His big break in the music scene came during the early 1970’s when he joined Cold Chisel. The band would go on to become one of the most successful rock groups in Australia and after various break ups are still touring the country today.
In January 1984 less than a month following the first Chisel break up Barnes would launch his solo career. His debut album “Bodyswerve” was released in September of that same year and reached the top position on the Aussie chart. Singles featured on the record were “Daylight”, “No Second Prize” and “Promise Me You’ll Call”.
All of these singles were later remixed for Jimmy’s second album called “For The Working Class Man” which also made it to number 1 in Australia. Standouts on the 1985 record were “Ride The Night Away”, “I’d Die To Be With You Tonight”, “Working Class Man”, and the re-worked version of “No Second Prize”. The album’s first single “I’d Die To Be With You Tonight” hit number 7 on the ARIA chart while “Working Class Man” reached number 4. “Working Class Man” is considered by many to be Barnes’ signature song and was also his first American hit peaking at number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 22 on the Mainstream rock chart.
Now on the show are the hits “I’d Die To Be With You Tonight” and “Working Class Man” by Jimmy Barnes.
