Welcome to Azza’s Half Hour I’m your host Aaron Gillin. Today on the show we will be focusing on the hit singles of Creedence Clearwater Revival.
1. “I Put A Spell On You”
This is Azza’s Half Hour where today we are focusing on the hit singles of Creedence Clearwater Revival. That was a track from 1968 entitled “I Put A Spell On You” which peaked at number 58 on the U.S Billboard chart.
CCR was an American rock band from California that formed in the late 1960’s and featured brothers John & Tom Fogerty along with Stu Cook & Doug Clifford. The band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1993 and has sold over 26 million albums in the U.S alone.
In January 1969 Creedence released a single called “Proud Mary” which reached number 2 on the U.S Billboard chart. The track appeared on CCR’s second studio album “Bayou Country” and became their first top ten hit in America. In 2004 “Proud Mary” charted in at 155 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
After this in August of that same year the band released an album entitled “Green River”. The records first single “Bad Moon Rising” charted in at number 2 on the U.S charts and the title track “Green River” also did the same. Both tracks were written by John Fogerty and released prior to the actual album.
Now on Azza’s Half Hour are “Proud Mary”, “Bad Moon Rising” and “Green River” by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

In November 1969 CCR released an album called “Willy And The Poor Boys” which featured the singles “Down On The Corner” and “Fortunate Son”. “Down On The Corner” was a track written by John Fogerty about a fictional band named “Willy And The Poor Boys”. The song spent 15 weeks on the U.S Billboard chart and reached a peak of number 3. “Fortunate Son” made it to number 14 in America and was a protest song about war. The track was ranked number 99 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and has frequently been used in movies and television.
Next in July 1970 Creedence Clearwater Revival released a single entitled “Lookin’ Out My Backdoor” which peaked at number 2 in America. The song was written by John Fogerty for his son Josh and appeared on the album “Cosmo’s Factory” along with other singles including “Travelin’ Band”, “Who’ll Stop The Rain”, “Up Around The Bend” and “Run Through The Jungle”.

In January 1971 Creedence released a single called “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” which reached number 8 on the American Billboard Hot 100. The track was written by John Fogerty and is said to be about the rising tension within CCR at the time. “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” has been featured on television shows such as “Cold Case”, “Stargate” and “Dexter” plus the films “Evan Almighty”, “December Boys” and “The Longest Yard”.
5 years later in 1976 a greatest hits album entitled “Chronicle” was released it charted in at number 67 on the U.S charts and featured 20 tracks including an edit of the 11 minute song “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” which originally appeared on the record “Cosmo’s Factory”. It was released as a single at the same time as the “Chronicle” album and peaked at number 43 in America.
