Welcome to Azza’s Half Hour I’m your host Aaron Gillin. Today on the show we will be focusing on Aussie Pub Rockers, Cold Chisel.
1. “Khe Sanh”
You’re listening to Azza’s Half Hour where today we are focusing on Cold Chisel that was “Khe Sanh”.
Cold Chisel is an Australian Pub Rock group that formed in Adelaide in the early 1970’s. The band featured members Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, Don Walker, Steve Prestwich and Phil Small. In 1978 Cold Chisel released their self titled debut album which featured the song “Khe Sanh” a track that is one of the most popular songs ever recorded by an Aussie act.
After this in 1979 the group released an album entitled “Breakfast At Sweethearts” which peaked at number 4 on the national charts. Singles from the record were “Goodbye”, “Shipping Steel” and the title track “Breakfast At Sweethearts”.

Welcome back to Azza’s Half Hour that was “Shipping Steel” by the band we are focusing on today Cold Chisel.
In June 1980 Cold Chisel released an album called “East” which reached number 2 on the Australian charts. Standout tracks were “Rising Sun”, “Star Hotel”, “My Turn To Cry” “Standing On The Outside” and the singles “Choirgirl”, “Cheap Wine” and “My Baby”. “East” was the first album by Cold Chisel to feature tracks written by all members of the band with lead singer Jimmy Barnes writing two.
In 1981 at the TV Week Countdown Awards Cold Chisel were nominated for seven of the major awards including Most Popular Group, Best Australian Album and Most Popular Record. The group won all seven but as a protest against TV Week and Countdown they refused to accept their awards. Cold Chisel closed the ceremony by performing “My Turn To Cry” with different lyrics that were aimed at TV Week Magazine. Halfway through the song Cold Chisel destroyed the set and their instruments which resulted in TV Week withdrawing their support for future Countdown Awards Ceremonies.

You’re listening to Azza’s Half Hour where today Aussie rockers Cold Chisel are in focus that was “Cheap Wine” from their third studio album “East”.
In 1982 after an unsuccessful tour of America Cold Chisel released the album “Circus Animals” which reached number 1 on the Aussie charts and featured the singles “You Got Nothing I Want”, “Forever Now” and “When The War Is Over”. “You Got Nothing I Want” was a track about the bad treatment of the band by an American record company. The hard rock song was written by Jimmy Barnes and reached the 12th position on the Australian charts. Some of the other standout tracks from “Circus Animals” include “Bow River”, “Houndog” and “No Good For You”.

5. “You Got Nothing I Want”
Welcome back to Azza’s Half Hour that was “You Got Nothing I Want” by Cold Chisel.
In 1984 Cold Chisel released an album entitled “Twentieth Century” which reached number 1 on the Aussie charts. Great songs on “Twentieth Century” include the title track along with “Saturday Night”, “No Sense”, “Flame Trees”, “Hold Me Tight” and “Janelle”. “Flame Trees” reached number 26 in Australia and “Saturday Night” reached number 11.
In 1998 after a long hiatus Cold Chisel reunited to record an album entitled “The Last Wave Of Summer”. The record charted in at number 1 in Australia and featured the tracks “Mr. Crown Prosecutor”, “Yakuza Girls”, “The Things I Love In You”, “Red Sand”, “Water Into Wine” and “The Last Wave Of Summer”.
After this between 2003 and 2010 Cold Chisel reunited for a few concerts and a national tour. The group also announced that they were working on new material for an upcoming album with a potential tour for 2011.
