Hello I’m Aaron Gillin and welcome to Azza’s Half Hour. On today’s show we will be focusing on American rock band Matchbox Twenty.
1. “Real World”
Welcome to the show that was Matchbox Twenty with a track entitled “Real World”.
Matchbox Twenty featuring lead singer Rob Thomas was formed in 1995 and their debut album “Yourself or Someone Like You” was released in October 1996. The album peaked at number 5 on the American charts and reached number 1 on the ARIA charts in Australia were it was also certified multi-platinum. Standout tracks from the album include “Real World”, “Long Day”, “Push”, “3 AM”, “Girl Like That” and “Back 2 Good”. “Real World” which was written by Rob Thomas became the band’s fourth single and reached number 40 on the ARIA charts. Another single “Push” was a breakthrough for Matchbox Twenty and reached number 8 on the Aussie charts plus also made it to number 1 on the U.S Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.

In May 2000 Matchbox Twenty released their second studio album which was called “Mad Season” it featured several successful singles and made it to number 1 on the Australian Albums chart as well as number 3 in the United States. Standouts on “Mad Season” were the title track along with “Bent”, “If Your Gone”, “Angry” and “Last Beautiful Girl”. The albums first single “Bent” reached number 1 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 chart and also number 19 on the charts here in Australia. The title track entitled “Mad Season” was another single from the record and it made it to 42 on the ARIA singles chart.

In November 2002 Matchbox 20 released their third album entitled “More Than You Think You Are” it reached number 3 on the Aussie charts and number 6 on the U.S charts. The five singles featured on the record were “Disease”, “Unwell”, “Bright Lights”, “Downfall” and “All I Need”. “Disease” was the first single released from “More Than You Think You Are” and was written by Rob Thomas and The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. “Disease” reached number 31 on the ARIA charts and number 29 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Welcome back that was “Feel” by Matchbox Twenty.
In 2007 after a hiatus Matchbox Twenty released a retrospective album called “Exile On Mainstream” the record featured 6 new songs along with 11 of the group’s greatest hits and reached number 1 on the Australian charts. The first single from “Exile On Mainstream” was “How Far We’ve Come” which reached number 7 on the ARIA charts. The other two singles from the record were “All Your Reasons” and “These Hard Times”. In 2008 Matchbox Twenty once again went on hiatus but they are now set to release their next album sometime in 2011.
