KASEY CHAMBERS & SHANE NICHOLSON
Hello and welcome to another edition of Azza’s Half Hour, today we focus on Australian Country music couple Shane Nicholson & Kasey Chambers.
1. “Designed To Fade”
Welcome back to Azza’s Half Hour that was “Designed to Fade” by Shane Nicholson featuring Kasey Chambers on backing vocals.
Shane Nicholson first became involved with the Chambers family when Kasey’s brother, Nash, produced Shane’s debut solo album entitled “It’s A Movie”. Kasey appeared on the album’s fifth track “Designed to fade” singing backing vocals. Soon after the recording of “It’s A Movie” the two became good friends and eventually partners and in 2005 had a casual wedding in their backyard.
Around this time the couple began touring and performing together in New South Wales with Kasey’s Dad, Bill Chambers. A number of acoustic shows were held and they performed in a cover band that they called “The Lost Dogs”.
In 2007 Shane along with Kasey appeared on a tribute album with many Australian artists entitled “Standing on the Outside – The songs of Cold Chisel”. Shane sang the classic Cold Chisel track “Cheap Wine” and Kasey once again appeared on backing vocals.
Here is “Cheap Wine” by Shane & Kasey.
2. “Cheap Wine”
That was “Cheap Wine” by Shane Nicholson & Kasey Chambers on Azza’s Half Hour.
In 2007 after writing some songs together Shane & Kasey decided to hit the studio and record an album together. The pair went to Jimmy Barnes’ home studio in Sydney and in 8 days had completed the record entitled “Rattlin’ Bones”. Kasey & Shane have stated that they didn’t want to create a duets album but rather one that sounded like a band with two singers in it and that’s what they did. The album was released in 2008 and featured the tracks “Monkey on A Wire”, “The Devil’s Inside My Head”, “Jackson Hole” and the title track you are about to hear right now “Rattlin’ Bones”.
3. “Rattlin’ Bones”
Because of the success of the alternate country and roots album “Rattlin’ Bones” Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson picked up the ARIA award for Best Country album in 2008 and received 5 Golden Guitar Awards at Tamworth. The album was labelled as a landmark Australian album and also received high praise from radio and press in the United States.
One of the singles from the record was “Monkey on A Wire” which is a character driven song written by Shane Nicholson. Here it is now “Monkey on A Wire”.
4. “Monkey on A Wire”
A great track from “Rattlin’ Bones” was “Jackson Hole” the song was co-written by Kasey & Shane and was penned after the viewing of a TV documentary about a lady that relocated from California to a valley called Jackson Hole in the American country side. The song was about starting a better life in a new town. “Jackson Hole” was a standout from the “Rattlin’ Bones” album.
Here is “Jackson Hole” on Azza’s Half Hour.
5. “Jackson Hole”
Welcome back it’s now time for another track off “Rattlin’ Bones” entitled “The House That Never Was”.
6. “The House That Never Was”
Most of the songs that appeared on the “Rattlin’ Bones” album were co-written by Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson but occasionally the two would write alone. Two of the tracks written by Kasey were entitled “The Devil’s Inside My Head” and “Your Day Will Come”.
Thanks for listening today I hope you will join me again in a fortnight at 10am on 3WAY FM.
Now to finish the show are “Your Day Will Come” and the bluegrass tune “The Devil’s Inside My Head”.
