Welcome to Azza’s Half Hour I’m your host Aaron Gillin. On today’s show we will be focusing on hits from English rock band The Police.

Welcome to the show that was a hit single by The Police entitled “Roxanne”.
English rock band The Police were formed in 1977 and their final line-up featured lead singer and bass guitarist Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and lead guitarist Andy Summers. The group were influenced by many styles of music including jazz, punk and reggae and shot to superstardom in 1978 following the release of their second single “Roxanne”. The track reached number 12 on the UK charts and was also a hit in Australia. Later in September of that year The Police released their next single which was called “Can’t Stand Losing You”. The track was written by Sting and made it to number 2 on the UK charts where it was certified silver and was featured on the bands debut record in November 1978.

2. “Can’t Stand Losing You”
Welcome back that was “Can’t Stand Losing You” by The Police on Azza’s Half Hour.
On the 5th of October 1979 The Police released their second studio album which was entitled “Reggatta de Blanc” it made it to the top position in the UK and Australia plus it also featured the number 1 hit singles “Message In A Bottle” and “Walking On The Moon”. “Message In A Bottle” became the groups first number 1 hit in the UK. The song was written by Sting and remained in the top spot on the UK charts for 3 weeks.

In 1980 after a world tour The Police released the hit “Don’t Stand So Close To Me”, it made it to number 1 in the UK. It also became their first single to reach number 10 on the US Billboard chart and won them the 1982 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group. The song was written by Sting and was the best selling single of 1980 in the UK. Next in December of the same year came another hit single from the band called “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da” it reached number 5 in the UK and also number 10 in the US. The simple tune along with “Don’t Stand So Close To Me” appeared on the bands third album which reached number 1 in both Australia and the United Kingdom.

In October 1981 The Police released their fourth studio album entitled “Ghost In The Machine” it reached number 1 in the UK and Australia plus it also featured the hit single “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”. The song topped the UK charts and made it to the 2nd position on the Australian charts plus also reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in America.
Then in June 1983 The Police released their final studio album, the record featured the hit single “Every Breath You Take” and made it to the top spot on the charts in the UK, US and Australia. “Every Breath You Take” became the bands final number 1 hit in the UK and was written by Sting after he divorced his wife. The song is often mistaken to be a love song but it is actually about a sinister and controlling character watching every move somebody is making.
