CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL
Hello and welcome to Azza’s Half Hour. I’m your host Aaron Gillin and I would like to thankyou for tuning in today. In the next half an hour you will be hearing some classic hits by Creedence Clearwater Revival as we focus on one of the great bands of the late 60’s and early 70’s.
CCR was an American rock band that had a string of hits in the 60’s and 70’s including “Proud Mary”, “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” and “Bad Moon Rising”.
The group consisted of John Fogerty and his brother Tom Fogerty as well as Stu Cook and Doug Clifford. Creedence has sold over 26 million albums in the United States alone and the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1993.
The first track we will be hearing today is “Proud Mary” a song that was released in 1969. This song was the bands first big hit because it reached the top ten on the U.S charts. So here it is CCR’s first gold single “Proud Mary”.
1. “Proud Mary”
After “Proud Mary” CCR had “Bad Moon Rising” this track was also released in 1969. The song was a stand out track from the album “Green River”. This classic song has been featured in films such as “My Girl”, “Man Of The House” and “Shaun Of The Dead” and it has also been used in the “UFC” and the television show “Supernatural”. This is CCR’s second gold single “Bad Moon Rising”.
2. “Bad Moon Rising”
“Willy and the poor boys” was the fourth Creedence Clearwater Revival album and featured the songs “Down On The Corner” and “Fortunate Son”. The album was released in 1969 and was number 392 in the Rolling Stone Magazine list of “500 Greatest Albums Of All Time”. Both “Down On The Corner” and “Fortunate Son” were written by John Fogerty.
3. “Down On The Corner”
4. “Fortunate Son”
In 1970 the album “Cosmo’s Factory” was released. “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” was one of the singles off the album. The song was thought to be about drugs because of the colourful, dream like lyrics but it was actually written by Fogerty for his three year old son Josh. Here it is “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
5. “Lookin’ Out My Back Door”
That was “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” from the album “Cosmo’s Factory”. Now it’s time to listen to another two tracks from the album “Run Through The Jungle” and “Up Around The Bend” which were two songs that were released as a double sided single in April 1970.
6. “Run Through The Jungle”
7. “Up Around The Bend”
“Who’ll Stop The Rain” was one of three double sided singles from the album “Cosmo’s Factory” that reached the top five on the Billboard Pop Singles chart. The song was ranked in at number 188 in the Rolling Stone Magazine list of “500 Greatest Songs Of All Time”. The song was written by John Fogerty. This is Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Who’ll Stop The Rain”.
8. “Who’ll Stop The Rain”
“I Heard It Through The Grapevine” is a song that was originally performed by the Motown singer Marvin Gaye. Creedence Clearwater Revival did an 11 minute cover version of the song on “Cosmo’s Factory” but the version of the song I will be playing for you today is a shortened down version from the album Chronicle Volume 1. So here it is now “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” a classic hit by CCR.
9. “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”
The sixth studio album by Creedence was called “Pendulum” and was released in December 1970. A stand out track from that album was “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” which will be our final track for the day. The hit song has been used a lot in the media including on T.V shows such as “Cold Case”, “Stargate” and “Dexter” and also in films such as “The Longest Yard”, “Evan Almighty” and “December Boys”. Thankyou for tuning into the show today and I hope you have enjoyed it I will be back in a fortnight. So now to close the show is “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
