The English rock band Slade, originally known as “The ‘N Betweens”, was formed in 1966 and featured the members Noddy Holder on lead vocals, Dave Hill on lead guitar, Jim Lea on bass guitar and Don Powell on the drums. In Britain Slade was the most successful charting band of the early seventies with 17 consecutive top 20 hits including 6 number 1’s between 1971 and 1976. Slade have released over 30 albums during their career and also sold more singles in the UK than any other group of the 1970’s.
One of the group’s first hit singles was released in May 1972 and entitled “Take Me Back Home” it made it to number 1 in the UK and was written by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea. After the release of this single and a successful gig at a festival Slade were now known as credible live performers instead of a regular pop act.

In 1973 Slade released another single called “Come On Feel The Noise” which immediately following it’s release went to the top of the UK charts. This was the first single in the UK to do so since “Get Back” a Beatle’s hit from 1969. “Come On Feel The Noise” was written by lead singer Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea in an attempt to recreate the atmosphere of their live shows and actually inspired American rock legends KISS to write the popular anthem “Rock and Roll All Night”.
Both “Mama We’re All Crazy Now” and “Come On Feel The Noise” have been covered by a range of artists over the years including the American heavy metal band Quiet Riot. Now on Azza’s Half Hour here are those two impressive tracks by Slade.
